“To celebrate and recognize the more than 113,000 case managers currently employed in the U.S. and highlight the important work they do each day, National Case Management Week took place October 10-16. Caring Hearts for Children, a central Texas foster care and adoption agency, is sharing information about the invaluable contributions case managers provide to foster children and families.

“From attending court hearings and composing treatment plans to assessing safety concerns and supervising family visits, our case managers play a critical role in protecting and providing for children in the foster care system,” said Brent Hagood, Executive Director of Caring Hearts. “Case managers consistently give of their time and talents to enhance the wellbeing of those they serve, and we are thankful for their dutiful service to foster children and families.”

What is a foster care case manager?

Foster care case managers are social service workers who coordinate care for foster children and families. In this role, they serve as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of the foster children and foster parents’ rights.

What are the responsibilities of a case manager?

Case managers coordinate and monitor the assessment, treatment planning process and follow-up for each child on their assigned caseload. In addition to documenting meetings, contacts and case progress, they work to ensure each child’s safety, wellbeing and permanency needs are met.

Are there other types of case managers?

Yes! Case managers work in a broad range of specialties, including healthcare, child welfare, occupational services, and refugee and immigrant services.

“At Caring Hearts for Children, we have seen firsthand the meaningful contributions case managers make to local communities and, specifically, the children and families we serve,” added Hagood. “During National Case Management Week, I hope you will join us in thanking the various case managers in your life and recognize the role they play across various disciplines and industries.”
