Club formed to back bands

A new Dublin Band Boosters group is meeting the second Monday of every month at 8 p.m. in the Dublin Secondary Band Hall.

“With the new leadership, we wanted to be more organized,” said club member Stephanie Sojourner, referring to Director Ronnie Luedke, Cathryn Rasbury and Paul Higgins who started leading the Dublin ISD bands this year.

“The directors have been great,” Sojourner said of the seasoned directors who have led rating 1 bands. “We’re excited to see what the future holds with them.”

With this desire for the teachers and program to succeed, a group organized at this year’s Meet the Teachers event and picked officers to lead for the 2018-2019 year in its first meeting in August. Officers elected include: president Paul Bradberry, vice president Arcy Krey, treasurer Jennifer Williams and secretary Amy McDonald-Rodriguez.

The group is currently holding a membership drive with several price points, starting at a free entry level membership that only asks for commitment to volunteer at band activities and events.

Families with an active band member can join for $25 for the year. Third Chair membership is $50; Second Chair is $75 and First Chair is $100.

These funds will allow the group to provide the band with instruments and backdrops as well as help fund a trip for the band.

“They haven’t been on an organized trip in years,” Sojourner said.

The Booster Club also plans to offer assistance for families in need pay the rental fee for instruments, and eventually, the group would like to offer band scholarships. Sojourner added the club will be aiding the junior high band as well as the high school.

Membership is vital as the club is in its infancy and needs to build funds. “We have nothing,” Sojourner said. “We’re only a month in.”

The Club is also holding a raffle to bolster funds. Tickets are available for $5 each (or 5 for $20) to win a 30 inch steel fire pit grill with a winch top for easy lifting. The drawing will be held at the annual Dublin Bands Christmas Concert. The club will also be hosting a dessert auction that night.

Sojourner said fundraising efforts will continue after that as the goal is to establish the club for years to come.

“Paul and I both said at the [first] meeting that we were in it for the long haul,” she reported.
