Lions finish historic run

The Lions’ baseball team finished the season with heart on Friday, falling to Brock 15-2 at Weatherford Junior College.

“We lost to a great team in Brock,” coach Kellen Cervetto said. “We learned real fast what a championship caliber team — that is in the State Tournament every year — what they play like.”

The loss capped a historic season as the 21-year-old program earned its first ever Area title.

“This season was a great lesson learned about not giving up and being patient,” Cervetto said.

The historic season followed a slow start for the Lions.

“It started after we lost to Brady in Brady,” Cervetto said. “Something sparked us, and we came alive the remainder of District. We were 2-11 and ended up going 13-12.”

This was the Lions third consecutive playoff run. In 2016, the Lions won Bi-District for the first time, then lost the Area round to Reagan County.
