LISD track girls take silver at state

The Lingleville High School girls relay team ended strong by placing second and fifth at the State track meet this weekend.

The team of Nicole Koke, Ilse DeBoer, Samantha Rodriguez and Selina Alvarado earned its silver in the 200-meter relay with a time of 1:48.56, narrowly finishing behind the first place time of 1:47.77.

“I’m extremely impressed and proud of how these girls performed,” Lingleville ISD Superintendent Curt Haley said. “They really have set the standard high for future years.”

They finished fifth in the 400-meter relay with 4:16.50 in a difficult heat as the first two finishers bested the 1A state record in the event (Blum, 4:08.30; Happy, 4:09.20).

The strong finish followed equally impressive performances at Regionals. They were the third best in the state in the 200-meter relay with 1:49.42 and broke the school’s record in the 400-meter with 4:13.03.

Haley added that he looks forward to how they do next year as none of the four are seniors. “They all can go back next year.”
