Price is first in state

Dublin’s Ethan Price won first place in his class the powerlifting State competition Saturday in Abilene.

Price lifted a total of 1,770 pounds, a personal record, squatting a personal record of 675, bench pressing 475 and dead lifting 620 in the 275-pound weight class.

He won first place at Regionals and in his District, as well. He was undefeated in competition this year and set Regional records in bench press and heaviest total lift.

Price lifted against 14 other competitors at the State level, lifting 15 pounds more than the second place, Tristan Ortiz from Big Lake Reagan County. The competition was close as Price and Ortiz were tied for first following the first round of the dead lift, coach Greg Hardcastle reported.

The Texas High School Powerlifting Association awarded Price a $1,000 scholarship during the opening ceremonies of the State competition.
