Lions on all-state team

Ethan Price (left) and Ryan Belew (right) each earned a place on the Academic All-State team.

To earn the honor, the two seniors had to have a 94 overall average through all four years of playing football.

Belew and Price are part of a long line of Dubliners earning the honor.

Cervetto said this is the seventh consecutive year that Dublin has been represented on the Academic All-State roster.

The Dublin Lions took 13 spots on the Academic All-District, with 13 players sustaining a 90 average or higher for the first two six weeks of the season.

Athletic Director Bob Cervetto said he’s proud of his players’ hard work in and out of the classroom.

Superintendent Rodney Schneider added that it’s a testament to the cooperation and dedication in all the departments at DISD.

Those who earned the honor this season were Billy Dale Mercer, John Hines, Pablo Pantoja, Belew, Price, Victor Ordonez, TyShon Hopkins, Jacob Stanley, Mark Ybarra, Blake Porter, Jared Ricks, Stephen Locklear and Hagen Huffman.

The Abilene Reporter -News released their All-Big Country 3A roster last week and Jacob Stanley was named the first team Utility Player.

Josh Hanes also was recognized as an honorable mention quarterback.
