Suspect leads officers on chase

A suspect is still at-large after a manhunt led Erath County officers on a chase for several hours Tuesday night.

At approximately 5:21 p.m., Erath County dispatch was called in reference to a man with a gun on County Road 454. The caller said the suspect had come out into the roadway and pointed a gun at her as she drove by.

Officers made contact with the subject in the front yard at 2606 CR454 before he fled on foot. Deputies who had been at that location earlier identified the suspect as Garret Paul Frey, 41. Frey has an active warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The road was shut down as additional units were called in to search. ECSO received DPS Air support as well as ground assistance from DPS, Stephenville Police, regional SWAT and Somervell County deputies.

Miscommunication led some to believe the search was tied to an active shooter situation in the county, but Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates assured that it was not an active shooter situation at any time.

The search continued late into the night but was eventually called off. He was apprehended Wednesday afternoon.
