Lions take third in state pool

Dublin took third in pool play June 29 in the seven-on-seven state football tournament but was eliminated by Lorena, 33-14, in the consolation bracket.

“[The] kids learned we can compete well with larger schools,” coach Greg Hardcastle said. “I could really see a difference in our defense understanding the coverages Coach Kent has introduced from the first tournament in May until now.

“Offensively we had some boys that really stepped up and showed that they are ready to step up and contribute in the fall.”
Dublin beat Liberty, 20-19, fell to Rockdale, 27-20, and lost to San Augustine, 27-21.

“All three pool games were very close and we had a chance to win the two games we lost,” Hardcastle said. “[We] had a chance to win both at the end of each.”
Summer conditioning will resume next week as the Lions prepare for another difficult football season this fall.

Playing for Dublin were Aldo Herrera (front row, left to right), Tyshon Hopkins, Mark Ybarra, Tim Teten, Adrian Flores, Pablo Pantoja, Jacob Owen, Jess Porter, Keith Wright (back row), Hunter Craddock, Jacob Stanley, Blake Porter, Cameron Olvera, Cy Wing, Caysen Morton, Jared Ricks and Josh Hanes.
