Highway 6 repairs to begin

The Texas Department of Transportation reported repairs on SH 6 between Dublin and Hico will begin tomorrow (June 20), weather permitting.

A pavement overlay will be applied to SH 6 as a permanent fix to the roadway. The project was awarded to Peachtree Construction and construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of July.

Highway 6 will be reduced to one lane in two-mile sections from FM 847 to FM 914 daily Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should be prepared to stop with flaggers and a pilot car directing traffic.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and seeking alternate routes is encouraged.

"Safety is a top priority at TxDOT, and the foundation for the agency’s planning, building and maintaining of projects across the state," TxDOT reported in a press release. "When driving through a work zone, some simple steps to take are: slow down, pay attention, avoid distractions such as cell phones, be patient and plan ahead."

TxDOT reported that they appreciate the patience of motorists and pedestrians, and encourage attention to all warning signs within the construction work zone while crews work to complete this project as quickly and as safely as possible.
