Lady Cards dash to state

The Lady Cardinals sent three relay teams to state competition on Friday evening.

“As far as anyone can remember, Lingleville has never sent a [track] team to state,” said head coach Troy Sparks. “We’re sending three.”

School personnel remember sending a single athlete or two to state before but never this many.

Selina Alvarado, Nicole Koke, Natalie Koke and Sam Rodriguez qualified in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays while Sam Rodriguez, Nicole Koke, Ilse DeBoer and Natalie Koke qualified in the 4x400.

The Lingleville community wished them well in a send-off Thursday afternoon as they headed out to the event.

All of the team members reported how excited they were to compete and how proud they are of their teammates.

“It’s been months of hard work and dedication and now they’re paying off,” Alvarado said.

“These girls have set the bar high for future generation here at Lingleville,” said Sparks on May 11. “The girls’ goal was to win Regionals and now we are on our way to state.”

Lingleville ended the season at state, coming in seventh in the 4x200 with 1:53.14, eighth in the 4×400 with 4:25.32 and ninth in the 4×100 with 53.58.
