An arrest was made over the weekend in Erath County after a 13-year-old was shot during a disturbance.
According to information released by the Erath County Sheriff’s Office, in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 19, the Erath County Dispatch received a call of shots fired at a location off of State Highway 67 in Erath County.
Deputies learned that a disturbance occurred between two adults which resulted in a 13-year-old juvenile being shot in the leg. The child victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. The identity of the child victim will not be released due to their age.
According to information released by ECSO, the suspect and victim were known to each other and there were no additional victims and no one else is in danger.
During the course of the investigation it was discovered that the suspect who was identified as Mauricio Ruiz Calzontzi was the shooter.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Calzontzi for the charge of Injury to a Child. Calzontzi was arrested and booked into the Erath County Jail and is being held there on a $250,000 bond.
